MONDAY RANDOMS - GENDER EQUALITY, A SHAM!

So over the weekend, I got into a serious discussion / argument with some group of girls at an event organized by Linda Ikeji at Eagles Club on Adeniran ogunsanya, it was a session were she planned to help give funds to ladies who want to be self made, only if their business proposals is worth investing in. It was a crowd filled with over a thousand "young women" within the age bracket of 20 - 36 years, What went on at that event should be gist for another day, as it was a mixture of comic relief and advantage takers! trust what happens when a group of women gather together. All I can say is God bless Linda for her thoughtful initiative and pet project "I rather be Self made"

Linda! girl power
Last week March 8th was
international women's day, and it was eventful with lots of organizations doing stuffs for women and some Feminist and Activist clamouring for "Women Equality" that was the cause of the Argument over the weekend. It shouldn't be a man's world! This days women are the breadwinners of their homes! Some men are dogs! I am an independent lady and don't need any man to survive, Why should a man head that department! Women should be given Equal number of roles as men in politics! Me I can't let a man treat me as trash o! A woman can't be the president of this country o! Women are their own enemies!I am a career woman! Are you familiar with all these? These were statements from some girls in the Argument and discussion, and I just ask myself, WHAT IS WOMEN'S EQUALITY? DOES IT EXIST? DO MEN EVER CLAMOR TO BE EQUAL TO WOMEN? WHY ARE WOMEN BOTHERED ABOUT EQUALITY WITH MEN? WHY DO WE MARGINALIZE OURSELVES AS WOMEN!
Truth is, as a christian, we have our God given role as men and women, in Genesis chapter 3 vs 16 -17. No one is greater, we are equal in the sight of God, so why do we as women feel the need to be equal with men, when it is already in the scripture? If God created Man first and then woman from the ribs of Man, We should be COMPANIONS NOT COMPETITORS! I am a Feminist! But my type of Feminism is one that advocates for the Social rights of women.
These are thoughts I want you all to ponder on.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
- The Term "Women Equality" sounds so marginalized! Women all over the world have the right to succeed without feeling that they are denied some opportunities by men as women! On the Forbes list today, women are on the top 10 list of successful people all over the world! So what and who is stopping you as women? The Equality movement by some women is a way to blame their laxity or inability in one area on Men!

- Women should be advocating for favourable conditions such as 6 months leave after childbirth, widows rights and girl child right, instead of adding irrelevant clause such as EQUALITY!

- If women are ever to achieve real equality as leaders, then we have to stop accepting male behaviour and male choices, as the default and the ideal. We must insist on changing social policies and bending career tracks to accommodate our choices too. We have the power to do it if we want to and we have many men to support us. My father told me this morning to make my Blog Visible and Interactive, so that he too can enjoy it. What greater support can I ask for?

- What kind of home training do we as women give to our boys before they become men? Is it a psychological state of the mind that women feel cheated by men?

- Let us as women Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in - Leke Alder
lets us learn to speak up, believe in ourselves, the positive power we posses and support ourselves positively.

- Have we all thought that for over 10 years of advocating for EQUALITY and it has never happened, that we need to change strategy and become Better Versions of ourselves, Be self empowered, Train good boys and make them understand that the kitchen isn't for the girls only, allow our men treat us as queen's, Add value to ourselves, value our Essence of existence as women, then and only then can we feel respected and equal.

Have We also thought of training / empowering Girls and Women of virtue! so that they know their self worth and never give in to intimidation or low self esteem. God bless my Mother, all the women who have mentored me and role models like Dr Mrs Ibukun Awosika, Tara Durotoye, Indra Nooyi the CEO of PepsiCo a mother and a wife and many more who are highly placed and successful in the society and can still humbly submit without feeling unequal.

Women are not lesser people, we are Beautifully, physically sculpted differently from men, We have seen Female presidents, women ministers, female sports people, female mechanics, Female CEOs, Female business owners, Women who head the board of a very huge company and professors, what more do we want? These women EARNED IT! In this present era, we can get what we want by working for it and not feeling discriminated against.

- Most importantly the right word should be "Women Rights" and not Equality!

If we keep to all the above mentioned points, then our men will respect and value us more.

QUOTE OF THE DAY :"To be a strong woman, you don't have to give up on things that define you as a woman. That means respecting, enabling and indeed celebrating the full range of women's choice. "Empowering yourself doesn't have to mean rejecting motherhood or eliminating the nurturing or feminine aspects of who you are - Lisa Jackson

I like to celebrate people who inspire others; I like to celebrate Africa, I like to celebrate young entrepreneurs like myself. The last time I was at the 2013 July edition of the LPM, I met an interesting young woman who fascinated me with her works by breaking away from the norm and doing something different. It’s the CEO Hand Maid in Africa, let’s meet her. Nene Aderohunmu is a young woman who is into stationeries such as pencil cups, books, sticky pads, diary, and household decorative like wall frames, picture frames, and jewelry box all made with Ankara and hand crafted by her.
